Hold Control and left-click the layer where the brush was applied, this will select the brush.

Ive got CS3 so you gotta click the "thumbnail" of the layer, let me know if you sort it out.

Holding down Control on your keyboard, left-click the layer we have just created and applied the brush to it. When the brush selection is done press Control + Shift + I to invert the selection:

Im stuck at this part. How do i select the brush?

Is this CS3 or CS4?

Bernie, be sure that the text layer is above the shield layer (the not resized one) and that it still has its blending options.
Also check if the text layer is not linked to another one.

Tell me if you sort it out.

Hello,
Thank you for the fantastic tutorial and its just what I needed for a project for my wife.

I am running into one stumbling block. When I use the type tool, center and then merge the two layers like the tutorial states the blending options do not carry over to the text. Is there a step that I am missing? The text does not have the highlight, beveling, or the effect of being part of the superman crest. Can you give me some guidance?

Thanks.
